WOMEN’S NCAA Sunday’s games

Rutgers 53, George Washington 42

GREENSBORO, N.C. — In a game where little was clicking offensively for Rutgers, Essence Carson carried the Scarlet Knights to another rematch with Connecticut — though this time with a Final Four berth at stake. Carson matched her career high with 25 points for Rutgers, sending it to Tuesday’s Greensboro Regional championship for a third meeting with their Big East rivals. “Essence played extremely well,” Rutgers coach C. Vivian Stringer said. “She probably realized that not too many people were on. In fact, nobody else was on.” Epiphanny Prince added 12 points for the second-seeded Scarlet Knights (27-6), who handed the Huskies their only loss in early February. Connecticut, the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament, avenged the 73-71 defeat by winning the rematch by 20 points earlier this month.

Connecticut 78, Old Dominion 63

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Maya Moore slipped into the post and stuck back a teammate’s miss. She pulled up and knocked down mid-range jumpers. She drifted outside and buried 3-pointers. There might not be a shot Connecticut’s young star doesn’t have — and nobody in this NCAA tournament has stopped her so far. The freshman phenom had 25 points and 11 rebounds in her second straight 20-point postseason performance to lead top-seeded UConn. “When you play teams that you aren’t really familiar with, it’s hard to get a feel for” them, Moore said. “Maybe at times, they’ve lost me, and I’m getting open 3s. It’s something that I’ve been doing throughout the season, and I’m going to continue to try to do [it]. I’m not going to lose confidence just because we’re in the tournament. Renee Montgomery added 13 points for the Huskies (35-1), who never trailed, shot 47.5 percent and put the game away with a 20-1 run early in the second half. They earned their 14th straight victory, beat the Lady Monarchs for the second time this season and claimed their third straight berth in the round of eight.

Texas A&M 77, Duke 63

OKLAHOMA CITY — Even with star Danielle Gant out for the second half, Texas A&M had enough to advance to its first regional finals. Patrice Reado scored all 17 of her points in the second half and Texas A&M overcame the loss of Gant to beat Duke. Takia Starks added 15 points for second-seeded Texas A&M (29-7), which extended its winning streak to 12 games and will play either top-seeded Tennessee or fifth-seeded Notre Dame on Tuesday for berth in the Final Four. Texas A&M coach Gary Blair said before the game that the Aggies would prefer to keep the score in the 50s or 60s against a high-octane Duke team. Third-seeded Duke (25-10) helped the Aggies with that strategy, committing 19 turnovers and never managing to get into offensive rhythm against a team that led the Big 12 Conference in scoring defense. Chante Black, who had a career-high 26 points and season-high 13 rebounds in a second-round win over Arizona State, led the Blue Devils with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
