Virtual school sets information session in Austintown

AUSTINTOWN — Ohio Connections Academy, a tuition-free, virtual public school, will hold an information session at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Country Inn and Suites, 5570 Interstate Blvd. Interested families can meet with OCA’s certified teachers and parents with children currently enrolled in the school. The school opened in the fall of 2003 and currently serves approximately 1,000 Ohio students in kindergarten through 11th grade, with a 12th grade being added this fall. OCA met No Child Left Behind reading, math and overall Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) measures for the 2006-07 school year. The school loans each family a computer, reimburses them for an Internet connection and provides all curriculum materials. It supplies all of the necessary software and free technical support to ensure the computer is working properly and each student is assigned a professional, Ohio-certified teacher to oversee learning and assess student progress.
