Dann to speak at forum

BOARDMAN — Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann will provide opening remarks at “Family Violence Prevention: What Can Be Done in Ohio?” from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the Holiday Inn, 7410 South Ave. The forum is to share research findings from the recently published “White Paper on Improving Family Violence in Ohio.” Regional forums are the first phase of a project started in 2007, through the support of the Anthem Foundation of Ohio. The Family Violence Prevention Project aspires to increase awareness of the scope and consequences of family violence in Ohio, identify realistic and promising policies and programs for abuse prevention and build support for implementing policies and programs.

Book discussion set

WARREN — Former FBI agent Jim Fisher will discuss his new book, “Forensics Under Fire: Are Bad Science and Dueling Experts Corrupting Criminal Justice?” at 6:30 p.m. April 9 at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W. An agent from 1966 to 1972, Fisher will discuss difficulties in diagnosing suspicious deaths, incompetent forensic scientists and crime lab failures. The lecture is free. No reservations are required.

Donation to Beatitude

YOUNGSTOWN — Dominion Foundation donated $5,000 to Beatitude House’s career and education program, The Potter’s Wheel. Beatitude House is a transition living and education facility, providing women the opportunity to transform their lives. This donation will help participants become economically self-sufficient. Dominion Foundation contributes more than $20 million annually to nonprofit organizations in areas in which they service. Fund-raising mixer

NILES — The Wellness Center Advisory Council has scheduled a fund-raising mixer April 24 at Vernon’s Caf on Youngstown- Warren Road from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Restaurant owner Vernon Cesta is a member of the council. Director Scott MacMillan said attendance is by invitation only and 400 invitations have been mailed. The council is seeking sponsorships and donations from community businesses and organizations. In the council’s first meeting earlier this month, MacMillan said he hoped to raise $250,000 to help pay for equipment. Construction of the $4 million, 70,000-square-foot facility located near Waddell Park began this month. Completion is expected by November.

Mental health awareness

ALLIANCE — The public is invited when the Mount Union College Department of Psychology has its annual Mental Health Awareness Talk at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Hoover-Price Campus Center.

The speaker is Jeff Bell, who will talk about his experiences living with obsessive compulsive disorder. Bell, a longtime veteran of radio and television news, co-anchors “Afternoon Drive” at KCBS-AM, the CBS Network’s San Francisco flagship.
