NINETY-FIVE YEARS AGO: The worst flood in Mahoning Valley history swept through the area in late March, 1913, causing an estimated $2.5 million in damage. Three bridges on the Mahoning River — West Avenue, Division Street and the one pictured, Credit-Mobilier — were washed away. Water rose 22 feet above flood stage, covering railroad tracks and inundating mills along the river bank. Parts of Federal Street were knee-deep in water and in low-lying portions of Mahoning Avenue, buildings were under water up to the second story.
