SCIENCE FAIR |Winners


Youngsters in grades five through 12 from four Northeast Ohio counties had their works displayed at Saturday’s Lake-to-River Science Fair at Youngstown State University, with a full scholarship going to the best project and governor awards to nine pupils. Winners, categories and prizes:

Braxton Wessell, junior, Geneva High School in Geneva. Won a four-year, full-tuition scholarship to YSU’s College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics for his project, “Which Insulating Material is Best in a Structure?”

Jenna Yacouone, eighth-grader, St. Joseph School, Austintown, Best of Fair trophy for grades seven to 10.

Paul Ugolini, fifth-grader, Willow Creek Learning Center, Best of Fair trophy, grades five and six.

Governor awards went to Brittany Russo, fifth-grader, Washington Elementary School, Niles, for energy research; Jonathan Franco, junior, Hubbard High School, water resources; Brett Wilson, freshman, Chaney High School, litter prevention; Garrhett Via, freshman, Geneva High School, environmental science; Michael Giles, junior, Choffin Career & Technical Center, Youngstown; agriculture and food science; AllysonDean, fifth-grader, Washington Elementary, Niles, biotechnology research; James Haddad, fifth-grader, Willow Creek Learning Center, materials science; Ricky Koewacich, sixth-grader, St. Joseph, Austintoiwn, manufacturing sciences; and Amrit Khooblall, eighth-grader, St. Joseph, Austintown, information science and technology. These youngsters also received $25 or $50.
