Second Harvest gets help

YOUNGSTOWN — Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley has received $13,882 from the Charity Projects Entertainment Fund (CPEF) to combat child hunger. The grant will be used to support the BackPack Programs in Campbell and Warren City elementary schools. The BackPack program sends food home with eligible students on weekends.

The grant is the result of CPEF’s teaming up with Fox and “American Idol” to present “Idol Gives Back,” which aired on Fox in April 2007. “Idol Gives Back” was a two-night special that raised awareness and funds for organizations that focus on providing resources for young people in extreme poverty in the United States and Africa, Second Harvest officials said.
