New graduate

Carla Baldwin of Youngstown recently graduated from The Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Lansing, Mich., with a concentration in litigation. She graduated from Calvary Christian Academy in Youngstown and earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from Capital University, Columbus, in 2003. She is the daughter of Charles and Joyce Baldwin of Liberty.

Miss Cheerleader finalist

Hannah Zimmerman has been selected as a state finalist in the Miss Cheerleader of America competition April 19-20 in Columbus. Zimmerman, daughter of Jodi and Donald Zimmerman of South Salem-Warren Road, Berlin Center, is a senior and cheerleader at Western Reserve High School.

She will compete for scholarships and awards that can be used at a private or public college, university or trade school of her choice. The Miss Cheerleader of America organization has its headquarters in Taylor, Mich. There is no national pageant. The competition, open to female cheerleaders in grades 9 through 12, includes short interviews and an elegant pageant-style evening gown competition. The competition seeks to recognize an “all-American girl.” Zimmerman was chosen for the competition based on an application. She also wrote an essay that will be evaluated during the competition.

SCOUTS

Earned Eagle award

Ben Roberts, son of Jim and Melissa Roberts of North Jackson, received his Eagle Scout Award, Boy Scout’s highest honor, at a court of honor at First Federated Church, North Jackson.

Ben has been a member of North Jackson Troop 105 for seven years. His scoutmasters have been Paul Matasic, Jim Hamilton and Bill Clark.

He has earned 32 merit badges and his Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award. He has been the troop’s historian, chaplain aide, patrol leader and assistant senior patrol leader.

He attended Camp Stigwandish for six summers and received his Trailblazer award. He also attended Camp Beaumont one summer. He recently received his bronze palm.

His Eagle Scout service project was the construction of a walk-in gym equipment room for Sts. Mary & Joseph School in Newton Falls. Many local businesses provided donations towards the completion of his project.

Ben is a senior valedictorian at Jackson-Milton High School, where he is a member of National Honor Society and the speech team. He is also a nine-year member of 4-H, president of Students Against Destructive Decisions and was a delegate to 2007 Buckeye Boys State.
