MINERAL RIDGE — Weathersfield Township Records Retention Committee, comprised of current and former township officials, will have its second meeting of the year at 11 p.m. Thursday at the township administration building. The committee first met in February after trustees were notified last year by the Trumbull County Township Association that the state and Attorney General Marc Dann are requiring a record retentions committee. The state has provided a catalog of records that are to be kept for a specific amount of time.
Boil-water order issued
CANFIELD — A precautionary boil order has been issued for residents of Sleepy Hollow Drive and Blueberry Hill Drive until 2 p.m. today. The order was issued because a waterline break occurred on Sleepy Hollow on Friday. Affected residents should boil water used for drinking, cooking or oral hygiene vigorously for one minute. No evidence of contamination has been found.
Springfield registration
NEW MIDDLETOWN — Springfield Local Elementary School is now registering pupils who will be entering kindergarten this fall. Call (330) 542-3722 between Tuesday and April 18 to make an appointment for kindergarten screening. A child entering kindergarten must be 5 before Oct. 1. Screening will be April 22-23 at the school. You will be given an appointment when you call to register. Parents or guardians are asked to bring their child’s birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization record, and custody papers if applicable.
Arrested in assault
BOARDMAN — A Colwyn court man was released after posting bond, accused of assaulting his live-in girlfriend. Pat Linker, 62, was charged with felonious assault. He was arrested Thursday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center’s Boardman Campus. The girlfriend, 39, told police that she was taken by ambulance to the hospital. She said that she was asleep in her bed early Monday when she was awakened by Linker shoving her out of bed. She struck her face on the nightstand and then Linker struck her about her face and torso, knocking her unconscious, according to a police report.
She suffered bruises on her forehead and arms and broken and missing teeth. A warrant was issued for Linker’s arrest and he was arrested when he came to the hospital.
Spaghetti dinner
BOARDMAN — The Steel Valley Canines, a new 4H-affiliated dog club, is offering a spaghetti dinner from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at First Covenant Church, 5210 Glenwood Ave. Adults pay $6, and children under 10 pay $3. For information, call (330) 757-7980. Proceeds will go toward agility training equipment for the dogs.
Speaking about karate
AUSTINTOWN — A. E. Vea, president and founder of the American International Karate Association, will speak about karate as a confidence and self-esteem builder for people with epilepsy at a meeting of the Mahoning Valley Epilepsy Support Group on Sunday. The free program is at 6:30 p.m. at the Mahoning Valley Epilepsy Fund building, 25 N Canfield-Niles Road (state Route 46). Neurologists recently have said that people with epilepsy, especially children, can benefit from martial arts in the areas of self-confidence, focus and concentration, said Janet Mau, executive director of the epilepsy fund. Vea, who has trained national and international champions, operates A.E. Karate Studios, 3900 Belmont Ave., Liberty.
Forensics book is topic
WARREN — Former FBI agent Jim Fisher will discuss his new book, “Forensics Under Fire: Are Bad Science and Dueling Experts Corrupting Criminal Justice?” at 6:30 p.m. April 9 at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W. An agent from 1966 to 1972, Fisher will discuss incompetent forensic scientists, crime lab failures and difficulties in diagnosing suspicious deaths. The lecture is free. No reservations are required.
