East Side woman charged with shooting man in leg

YOUNGSTOWN — A South Garland Avenue woman is in Mahoning County Jail accused by police of shooting a man in the leg.

Police charged Marian Jones, 24, with felonious assault for shooting Robert Blackshear in the leg Friday evening. Blackshear, whose age and address weren’t available, was listed in stable condition today at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

A police officer on patrol was flagged down in the 1000 block of Oak Street on the city’s East Side by a person who said a man had been shot. Police found Blackshear lying on the ground behind a building.

When the officer asked who had shot him, he said, “Don’t worry about it. I’ll heal,” according to the police report.

A witness told police he saw Jones and Blackshear get out of separate cars, argue about money and scuffle. Blackshear started to run and Jones shot him, the witness told police.

Jones, however, told police she had struggled with an armed gunman who was fighting with Blackshear. During the struggle, the gun went off, she told police.
