Mahoning treasurer’s workers to get 3% raises per year

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County commissioners approved a three-year labor contract with 3 percent annual pay raises for 12 workers in the county treasurer’s office who belong to Teamsters Local 377.

The contract, which is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2007, covers cashiers, clerks and delinquent tax collectors. The workers, who already have ratified the agreement, earn between $12 and $17 per hour.

The workers will continue to pay 10 percent of their monthly health care premiums, which total about $600 for the single plan and $1,200 for the family plan, said Daniel R. Yemma, chief deputy treasurer.

The new contract, which the commissioners approved Thursday, however, caps the employer’s payment of the employee share of the Public Employee Retirement System contribution at 9.5 percent of wages.

The employee’s share has been raised to 10 percent this year, so employees will begin paying 0.5 percent. The county will continue to pay the employer share of PERS, which is 14 percent of wages.
