Threat causes Columbiana courthouse evacuation

LISBON — The Columbiana County Courthouse was evacuated about 9:30 a.m. today, apparently because of a bomb threat. Firefighters from various county departments were searching the area around the courthouse. The building was to be closed until 1 p.m. At least two bomb threats were made against different county facilities. The first call about 9:30 threatened a court. Authorities evacuated the courthouse, municipal court and juvenile court -- which are in three separate buildings. A subsequent threat was made about the Department of Jobs and Family Services. Authorities also are investigating that call. Workers have gone to other county buildings or restaurants to await the all-clear. Commissioner Jim Hoppel said the sheriff's office has received information about the call and are checking it out.
