Vest failed to stop fatal bullet
CAMPBELL — An autopsy Monday revealed that Willie B. Hunt, who was shot to death early Sunday, was wounded three times despite wearing a bulletproof vest.
Hunt, 22, of Oxford Street, was the city’s second homicide victim this year.
Police Detective Sgt. Gus Nicolaou said Hunt had three bullet wounds in his torso, including one in the chest that went through the bulletproof jacket, another that struck his left shoulder just outside the jacket, and a third that was superficial.
Nicolaou said Hunt was shot about 4:30 a.m. outside the Ultimate Club, 56 Robinson Road. The victim, who was at the club with friends, then ran west along the road and fell on the road in front of a parked car, where he was found lying on his back. Hunt was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Medical Center trauma department, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Nicolaou said he is still trying to talk to people who were at the scene to determine the reason for the shooting. He said no fight was reported inside the club and no one reported hearing gunshots. Police found two shell casings in the street near the club.
