Worth A Look: Area activities are open to the public
ANTIQUE SHOWS
• Howland Community Church, 198 Niles-Cortland Road S.E., Warren, will have an antiques show and sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Appraisals will be by Ken Yenke from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Appraisals will be $5 each and are limited to two items per person. Admission is $3.
BINGO/CARD PARTIES
• St. Brendan Altar and Rosary Society will sponsor a card party at 2 p.m. April 6 at Maxwell Hall, 144 N. Schenley Ave., Youngstown. Admission is $5 and includes lunch. Patrons are asked to enter from the back parking lot.
FUNDRAISERS
• Ursuline High School, 750 Wick Ave., Youngstown, is selling tickets for a $10,000 cash prize. Tickets are $10 each, and the drawing will be May 2. To purchase tickets, call (330) 744-4563, Ext. 125 or Ext. 131. The winner need not be present. Proceeds benefit students.
NIGHTS AT THE RACES
• Ursuline High School Football Program is sponsoring a night at the races and games of chance on April 26 at the school cafeteria, 750 Wick Ave., Youngstown. Doors will open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 each, and the cost to buy a horse and to receive two tickets is $30. There will be a light buffet, a silent auction, a 50-50 raffle and blackjack, and a cash bar. To purchase tickets and horses, call (330) 744-4882.
RAFFLES
• Girard High School Band members are selling raffle tickets for a April 2 shopping spree at the Girard IGA on North State Street. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased from any band member or band booster. The drawing will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the band room at the high school. The band is raising funds for a trip to Washington, D.C.
SALES
• Women’s Ministry of Covenant Life Fellowship, 5900 W. Liberty St., Hubbard, is having its annual spring rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 11 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 12. Donations are being accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 1-4.
• Salvation Army Thrift Store in Austin Center, Mahoning Avenue, Austintown, is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. A variety of men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and bric-a-brac is available at bargain prices.
SPECIAL EVENTS
• St. Paul’s Altar Guild will sponsor a Spring Fling at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul Church Hall, state Route 170, New Middletown. Admission is $5, and there will be refreshments, bingo, cards, door prizes and raffles.
TRIPS
• The education department of United Local School District will sponsor a bus trip April 5 to the Amish country in Ohio. Departure time is 7:45 a.m. from United High School, and the return trip is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The cost is $7 per person and includes stops at Simply Smuckers, Kidron, Shearer’s Foods, Walnut Creek Flea Market and a cheese factory/store. The bus will stop at an Amish-style restaurant, where passengers are responsible for their own dinner. Payment is due with registration, and checks are to be made payable to United Local Schools and mailed to Community Education, United Local Schools, 8143 state Route 9, Hanoverton, OH 44423.
