Wick Masonic Lodge 481 will present annual award

YOUNGSTOWN — Wick Masonic Lodge 481 will present its Community Builder’s Award to member Donny Murphy when it meets at 6 p.m. April 2 at the Masonic Temple, 223 Wick Ave.

The award is given annually to a member of the Masons in the Mahoning Valley who has performed an outstanding service to the community.

Murphy, who is general manager of Donnell Ford Inc. in Boardman, was one of six businessmen and contractors who formed The Core Six, the group responsible for organizing and funding the Extreme Home Makeover for the Rebecca Bailing family on Shields Road in Canfield. Through the group’s efforts and the cooperation of many others in the community, the family home was torn down and replaced with a new one, built entirely from donations of money, material and labor.

The evening will begin with a potluck dinner. The public is invited, and those attending are asked to take a covered dish and dessert. No reservations are required.

At 7 p.m. Dale Beck, worshipful master of Wick Lodge, will host the awards program, during which 25- and 50-year members, widows and several distinguished Masons also will be honored.
