Vows are renewed by the Johnsons on anniversary


X YOUNGSTOWN — Mr. and Mrs. Richard Johnson, 4015 Sheridan Road, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Feb. 10 by renewing their marriage vows during a Mass at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers, where they are members.

After the ceremony they were honored by family members and friends during a brunch and reception at the Poland home of their daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Martin Hobby. The couple’s other children and their spouses, who also served as hosts for the festivities, are Richard and Victoria Johnson of Youngstown, Michael and Diane Johnson of Poland, Mary C. Johnson of Struthers, Susan Johnson of Youngstown, and Patricia and Nicholas DiVencenzo of Struthers.

The family circle includes 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Cynthia Johnson Whipkey, is deceased.

Mr. Johnson and the former Mary Ferry were united in marriage Feb. 7, 1948, in Elizabeth City, N.C.

Mrs. Johnson was a decorating consultant with Home Interiors and Gifts Inc. and retired in 2006. Mr. Johnson, a U.S. Navy veteran, was employed by Wean United in Youngstown as a hitcher before retiring in 1982. He bowled with the Wean United team.

The Johnsons will continue their anniversary celebration by taking trips to Atlantic City, Ireland and the Bahamas this year.
