YSU plans to sponsor a diversity conference


YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State University’s Department of Social Work will sponsor a diversity conference from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Kilcawley Center.

The title of the conference is “Honoring Diverse Strengths: An Empowerment Perspective” and it is designed for students and human service professionals.

The keynote speaker is Robert M. Ortega, an associate professor of social work at the University of Michigan. Ortega has written and presented extensively on diversity and multiculturalism in research and practice, including participation in national and international studies on Latino child welfare.

The conference will also feature an ethics presentation by Joseph Mosca, associate dean of YSU’s Bitonte College of Health and Human Services.

Co-sponsors of the event are the Eastern Ohio Health Education Center, Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic, the YSU Office of Student Diversity Programs and the YSU Judaic and Holocaust Studies.

Social workers, counselors and chemical dependency counselors can earn six continuing education credits by attending. The registration fee is $75, with a box lunch included.
