Notebook: SteelHounds

More records: Friday’s victory give the SteelHounds their 38th victory, the most in three years of the franchise. Their 81 points exceeds the 78 they earned in the 2006-07 season.

Series: The SteelHounds lead the season series, 2-1-1. They have never won on the Eagles’ home ice in their three seasons. Last year, Colorado won their first-round playoff series, 4-2.

Injured: Forward Petr Pohl has been placed on the 14-day injury list with an undisclosed ailment. However, the 14-day list expires for all teams when the regular season ends tonight. Pohl could be activated if the SteelHounds have a Monday playoff game.

Playoff possibilities: The top three seeds in the conference receive a first-round bye. The fourth- and fifth-place teams will play a best-of-three series that begins Monday at the fifth-place team’s arena. Games two and three will be played on Wednesday and Thursday at the fourth seed’s rink. If the SteelHounds overtake the Texas Brahmas for third, they would play the Northwest Division winner (most likely Colorado) in a best-of-seven series that would begin next weekend. The Mississippi River Kings are one-point behind the SteelHounds and host Corpus Christi tonight.

Deja vu: Friday’s come-from-behind victory was very similar to the SteelHounds’ 3-2 victory Wednesday over Colorado. Friday’s game opened with one fight (instead of two in five seconds), this time Milan Maslonka taking on the Eagles’ Jason Beatty. The SteelHounds were being outshot tremendously in the second period before they scored twice to tie the game. And Youngstown again dominated the third period, outshooting the Eagles, 19-8.

Potent power-play: Riley Nelson scored three power-play goals for the Eagles. The first came 72 seconds into the game. His third goal came when the SteelHounds had almost killed off an 80-second two-man advantage. The Eagles went 3-for-10 on the power play while Youngstown was 1-8.

Postgame skate: Fans who bring their skates to tonight’s regular season finale may skate for an hour after the game.
