Scrappers transfer ownership

NILES — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers are switching owners —but don’t worry, they’re not switching teams.

Palisades Baseball Ltd. entered into a partnership with HWS Baseball on Wednesday and will ultimately transfer ownership of the Scrappers to HWS. The organizations will work together for the next three seasons.

The Scrappers will still be a Single-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians and will still compete in the New York-Penn League.

“The entire HWS organization is first-rate and has been very successful in the operation of its franchises,” said Alan M. Levin, the managing general partner of Palisades Baseball. “We are looking forward to combining forces and resources to ensure the success of our respective companies and achieving our mutual goals.”

HWS owns the Modesto Nuts, a Single-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies in the California League, and the Mobile Baybears, a Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Southern League.

Day-to-day operations of the club will continue to be led by Scrappers GM David Smith and his staff.

The transaction is subject to the approval of baseball’s governing bodies.
