Avalon Holdings reports higher earnings for 2007

HOWLAND — Avalon Holdings Corp. earned $196,000, or 5 cents a share, in the fourth quarter of last year, compared with $343,000, or 9 cents a share, in the same quarter of 2006. The fourth-quarter results for 2006 included income from discontinued operations of $95,000, or 2 cents a share. Net operating revenues last quarter were $10.4 million, compared with $10 million in the fourth quarter of the prior year.

For the full year of 2007, net operating revenues were $45.4 million, compared with $39.3 million for 2006. The company earned $1.3 million, or 35 cents a share, from continuing operations last year, compared with $900,000, or 23 cents a share, in 2006. Including results from discontinued operations, the company earned $1.5 million in 2007, or 38 cents a share, compared with earnings of $1.3 million, or 35 cents a share, for 2006.

Avalon Holdings Corp. provides waste management services to industrial, commercial, municipal and governmental customers. It also owns the Avalon Golf and Country Club, which operates three golf courses in the region.

GM workers to get details of latest buyout program

LORDSTOWN — John Donahoe, plant manager of the General Motors Lordstown complex, will inform plant workers next week about the company’s latest buyout program. He will give the details of the program at various times Wednesday through Friday. GM announced recently a nationwide buyout program that is similar to one that was used in 2006 to reduce its work force. Payments depend on length of service and range up to $140,000.

Delphi stock to be listed on NYSE after bankruptcy

TROY, Mich. —Delphi Corp. said Thursday that the New York Stock Exchange has approved the listing of shares of Delphi common stock when the auto supplier emerges from bankruptcy court protection. Delphi is trying to arrange financing, which must be approved by the bankruptcy court.
