McCAIN IN THE LEAD: A post-primary poll of Ohio voters has U.S. Sen. John McCain, the Republican Party’s presumptive presidential nominee, with a lead over both Democratic candidates.
The Rasmussen Reports’ poll has McCain leading both U.S. Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama by the same margin, 46 percent to 40 percent, in Ohio.
The company’s pre-primary poll had McCain ahead of Clinton by 3 percentage points and Obama by 1 percentage point.
Both polls’ margins of error are 4.5 percent. That translates into a swing of 9 percentage points thus making the races statistical dead-heats.
You would think Clinton would poll better in Ohio after her convincing March 4 Democratic primary victory — and you might be right.
Clinton in the lead: Public Policy Polling’s recent survey of Ohio voters has Clinton ahead of McCain 45 percent 44 percent while McCain leads Obama 49 percent to 41 percent. That poll’s margin of error is 3.9 percent.
PPP’s poll results are within the margin of error for the McCain-Clinton scenario and just outside that margin for his potential match-up with Obama.
