Dayton 66, Cleveland St. 57

DAYTON — Brian Roberts scored 21 points to lead third-seeded Dayton over Cleveland State. Roberts scorched sixth-seeded Cleveland State on 7-of-10 shooting, and the undersized Vikings had no answer for 6-fot-10 Kurt Huelsman inside, especially with Cleveland State center Chris Moore in foul trouble. Huelsman tallied 12 points, and Marcus Johnson and Andres Sandoval each added 11 for Dayton (22-10). The Vikings (21-13) had the lead for nearly six minutes in the first half, but surrendered a 15-4 run to the Flyers to end the half. Dayton extended its lead to 15 in the second half on a Jimmy Binnie three-pointer from the corner with 18:17 to play.A final surge by the Vikings trimmed Dayton’s lead to six with 3:50 remaining, but Cleveland State missed 5-of-6 shots down the stretch. Cedric Jackson led Cleveland State with 11 points, and Joe Davis and D’Aundray Brown chipped in 10 apiece.

UAB 80, VCU 77

RICHMOND, Va. — Reggie Huffman had 21 points, including a game-saving layup with 5.6 seconds left, as UAB took a commanding second-half lead and held of Virginia Commonwealth. UAB also got 16 points from Robert Vaden, who became the school’s all-time single-season scoring leader with 686, and 13 from Lawrence Kinnard. Eric Maynor led the Rams with 22, including 20 in the second half. Jamal Shuler added 21 in the final game of his college career, and Lance Kearse scored 16.

Virginia Tech 94, Morgan St. 62

BLACKSBURG, Va. — A.D. Vassallo made 11 of 14 field goal tries and scored 27 points in 25 minutes as sharp-shooting Virginia Tech made easy work of Morgan State. The Hokies (20-13) led 40-25 at halftime and shot better than 65 percent for the game. Marquise Kately led Morgan State with 21 points, Boubacar Coly had 11 and Jermaine Bolden 10.

Mississippi 83, UC Santa Barbara 68

OXFORD, Miss. — Dwayne Curtis had 17 points and 16 rebounds as Mississippi advanced to the second round for the second straight year. Chris Warren had all 16 points of his points in the second half for the Rebels (22-10). David Huertas had 15 points for Ole Miss and Kenny Williams added 13. James Powell scored 18 points for UCSB (23-9) and Chris Devine added 14.
