Jeannette’s Pryor set to reveal college choice

Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan and Oregon are possibilities.

Finally.

Terrelle Pryor, the No. 1 overall high school football recruit, will announce today where he’s headed to college. It’s down to two schools, and Penn State is not one of them.

According to two sources close to Pryor, Penn State is out. Ohio State and Michigan remain, and the Buckeyes are “the pick unless he changes his mind between now and when he announces,” said one source.

Pryor did not respond to a phone call on Tuesday.

On Feb. 6, Pryor, a 6-foot-6, 220-pound quarterback, was set to announce he was headed to Ohio State on national signing day. But the senior from Jeannette (Pa.) High, located 20 minutes outside Pittsburgh, decided to extend the process in deference to his father, Craig, who favored the Nittany Lions, and also because Pryor was still playing basketball.

Pryor said then that he was going to take an official visit to Penn State before April 1, the last day recruits can sign binding letters. But he never did as his basketball team advanced through the playoffs, eventually winning the PIAA Class AA state title over Strawberry Mansion in, as fate would have it, State College.

The Jayhawks became one of the few schools in Pennsylvania history to win state crowns in basketball and football.

Everything Pryor has done in the last month has seemed to suggest the Lions were out and the Buckeyes were the choice, with the Wolverines also in the picture. He attended an Ohio State basketball game the day after he won the WPIAL title.

“My gut says it’s Ohio State,” Jeannette football coach Ray Reitz said.

Pryor will hold a news conference at his school at noon, ending one of the most scrutinized recruiting chases in college football history.

“I just want to get it over with,” Reitz said.
