Tribe/Bucs scores for Sunday’s games

Yankees 7, Indians 6

TAMPA, Fla. — C.C. Sabathia is focused on helping the Cleveland Indians win this year. That doesn’t mean speculation about his potential free agency after this season isn’t already a topic. The 2007 AL Cy Young Award winner allowed three runs and five hits over four innings in the Indians’ loss to the Yankees, a team that could offer the left-hander big money should he reach the open market. “I’m focused on this season right now, playing in Cleveland and trying to win,” Sabathia said. “I think we have a good chance to win. After the year we had and being able to bring everybody back, and given a chance to go at it again. I definitely feel like we’ve got a confidence in here.” Grady Sizemore went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs for Cleveland. He has five homers this spring. Sabathia, the Indians scheduled opening-day starter, walked three and struck out three during a 74-pitch outing. Cleveland, the defending AL Central champs, beat the Yankees in the first round of last year’s AL playoffs. New York’s Chien-Ming Wang, expected to start the Yankees’ opener, gave up four runs and six hits in 41⁄3 innings. He had seven strikeouts and two walks. Nick Green had a game-winning two-run single during the Yankees’ three-run ninth off Tom Mastny.

Pirates 6, Red Sox 3

BRADENTON, Fla. — Freddy Sanchez will finally take the field and test his surgically repaired shoulder this week. If his bat is any indication, he’s just fine. Sanchez’s three-run double snapped a tie and keyed a four-run seventh inning to lift the Pirates.

Sanchez, normally the Pirates second baseman, has been limited to designated-hitter duties this spring after arthroscopic surgery last September. He is hitting .371 after going 2-for-4. Sanchez, who won the National League batting title in 2006, is scheduled to see his first action in the field Tuesday when the Pirates play Cincinnati in Sarasota, Fla. “It’s funny but I’m not usually a good spring training hitter. In fact, I’m awful most springs,” Sanchez said. “I still don’t feel like I’m swinging the bat all that well but it’s been better than other springs. I’m not sure why but I’m getting some hits.”

Sanchez’s double came off Craig Breslow and broke a 2-2 tie after Pittsburgh had loaded the bases on a double by Luis Rivas and singles by Nyjer Morgan and Jack Wilson. Adam LaRoche went 2-for-2 with a double for Pittsburgh, and Ryan Doumit hit a two-run single.
