Fire destroys South Side house


YOUNGSTOWN — The vacant house at 77 E. Evergreen Ave. was deliberately set on fire around 3:45 a.m. today and was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Damage was set at $10,000, a total loss. A neighbor told firefighters that people had been moving stuff out of the house prior to the fire. The fire caused heat damage to the occupied house next door at 73 E. Evergreen, reports show. Firefighters described the neighboring house as being in deplorable condition, noting a fallen tree is on the roof, but the occupant refused to leave. Heat damage to the occupied structure was set at $3,000.
