No. 1 North Carolina 86, Clemson 81

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Wayne Ellington finished with 24 points and Tyler Hansbrough had 18 Sunday to help No. 1 North Carolina beat Clemson in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament championship game. The Tar Heels (32-2) won the title for a second straight season and a record 17th time. Ty Lawson had 12 points, five rebounds and eight assists for the Tar Heels, who have won 11 straight games. Hansbrough was named the tournament’s most valuable player, finishing with 11 rebounds one day after hitting the last-second shot to beat Virginia Tech in the semifinals. K.C. Rivers finished with 28 points and six 3-pointers for the Tigers (24-9), who saw their best ACC tournament run in more than four decades end just like all the others: without a title. Clemson was in the final for only the second time after upsetting No. 7 Duke in the semifinals. Their last appearance in the championship game was in 1962.

No. 8 Wisconsin 61, Illinois 48

INDIANAPOLIS — Brian Butch scored 12 points and Wisconsin swept the Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles for the first time. Marcus Landry, the tournament’s most outstanding player, added 10 points, six rebounds and four assists as the top-seeded Badgers (29-4) won their second tournament championship. Shaun Pruitt led the 10th-seeded Fighting Illini (16-19) with 13 points and eight rebounds. Illinois had won four straight games, including a win over No. 17 Purdue in the quarterfinals.

No. 5 Kansas 84, No. 6 Texas 74

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Mario Chalmers had a career-high 30 points and eight of Kansas’ tournament-record 15 3-pointers as the Jayhawks won their third straight Big 12 title over Texas. Brandon Rush hit six 3-pointers for Kansas (31-3), which was 15-for-25 from behind the arc, breaking the tournament record of 14 set by Colorado in 1995 and matched by Missouri in 2001. Darrell Arthur had 16 points — three more than his two previous games combined — and the Jayhawks had 25 assists on 26 field goals to win their sixth Big 12 title in 12 years. D.J. Augustin had 20 points for Texas (28-6), which made 12 3-pointers.

Georgia 66, Arkansas 57

ATLANTA — Terrance Woodbury scored 16 points as Georgia completed its remarkable run through the Southeastern Conference tournament to earn its first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2002. The Bulldogs (17-16) became just the third team in the tournament history to win four games in four days — actually, two came on the same day, an impromptu bit of scheduling forced by a tornado that slammed into the Georgia Dome. Georgia got to cut down the nets on the home court of Georgia Tech, its bitter in-state rival and the replacement venue for the tournament after the dome was struck Friday night.

Texas-Arlington 82, Northwestern St. 79

KATY, Texas — Anthony Vereen scored 25 points to lead Texas-Arlington in the Southland Conference title game and the school’s first NCAA tournament berth. Vereen’s two free throws with 11 seconds left sealed the win for the Mavericks (21-11), who set a school record for victories. Trey Gilder had 20 points for Northwestern State (15-18), which was looking for its third NCAA berth and first since 2006.
