New cancer study
BOARDMAN — The American Cancer Society is seeking participants in a study, known as Cancer Prevention Study 3, the goal of which is to better understand the lifestyle, behavioral, environmental and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer. The goal is to enroll 500,000 adults between the ages of 30 and 65 who have no personal history of cancer. This year’s study enrollment will take place at three American Cancer Society Relay For Life events in Ohio, including the Boardman Relay For Life on May 16 from 7 to 11 p.m. at Boardman Center Middle School football stadium, 7410 Market St.. Neonatal doctors
YOUNGSTOWN — Two doctors recently joined the St. Elizabeth Health Center Department of Pediatrics neonatology team. They are: Drs. Firas Saker and Eric Mosqueda . Neonatal Special Care Unit at St. Elizabeth is operated by Akron Children’s Hospital. Dr. Saker is board certified in pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine and has assumed the role of director of the neonatal special care unit. Dr. Mosqueda completed a pediatric residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and completed a neonatology fellowship at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, Cleveland.
Diabetes health fair
FARRELL, Pa. — The Regional Diabetes Center at UPMC Horizon will have its annual health fair on April 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Conference Rooms 1, 2, and 3 at the Shenango Valley campus. The fair will provide patients with diabetic management information, a nutritional display, refreshments, and door prizes. The health fair is open to the public. Colorectal education
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — During March, Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Jameson Health System is offering a free colorectal education program at the Jameson South Conference Center, 1000 S. Mercer St. from 4 to 6 p.m. March 25. The program is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Cancer Education Network and the Lawrence County Cancer Coalition.
Pediatric vision clinic
LISBON — The Columbiana County Health Department is offering a county-wide pediatric vision clinic on March 26 at the health department, 7360 state Route 45. Any child that is having problems with inflamed or watery eyes, blurred or double vision, crossed eyes, headaches or difficulty seeing things near or far away may be seen at the clinic. GREENVILLE, Pa. — The UPMC Horizon Oncology Patient Care Fund committee is offering a pizza buffet to raise mondey for the Oncology Patient Care Fund. The event will be 5-8 p.m. April 24 at the Pizza Hut on Hadley Road in Hempfield Township.
