Man sentenced to prison in toddler’s death

GREENVILLE (AP) — A man was sentenced to four years in prison for suffocating his girlfriend’s toddler daughter by getting drunk and falling asleep on top of her.

Police say Nicholas Petty, 26, and his girlfriend had a late-night fight in October. Tracy Crawford left the house and left her two children with Petty.

When Crawford returned more than four hours later, she found 2-year-old Adahyn Dyson pinned under Petty on the couch.

Police say Petty had many beers and took prescription anti-anxiety drug Xanax.

Petty was sentenced Thursday in Greenville, about 40 miles northwest of Dayton.
