Fight against drugs
The Columbiana County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board and Family Recovery Center will sponsor a program from 7:45 to 10 a.m. April 25 at The Dutch Haus in Columbiana.
There will be an overview of the drug and alcohol problem, and discussions on how coalitions promote solutions and commitments.
The main speaker will be Kristin Gish, project director for the Drug Free Action Alliance of Ohio, a statewide coalition.
Some sobering Columbiana County statistics include:
38 percent of 10th-grade students surveyed in 2007 reported using alcohol in the last month.
23 percent reported using marijuana in the last year.
35 percent drove with a drunk driver in the last year.
45 percent of the people attending the Steering Clear diversion program for first-time drunken-driving offenses were under age 30.
64 percent of of county adults said in 2006 that underage drinking is a large problem in the county.
80 percent of crimes are tied to drugs.
