Weekly series to begin

CHAMPION — Wildare United Methodist Church will host a weekly series based on “The Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren. The series, which is open to the community, will begin from 4 to 6 p.m. March 29 at Wildare Family Life Center, 7211 N. Park Ave. Ext. The series will focus on the idea that each person was created by God for five purposes and answers the question, “What on Earth am I Here For?” Host pastor is the Rev. Tal Lewis. Passion play scheduled

AUSTINTOWN — “The Passion of the Promised,” a Passion play, will be presented at Highway Tabernacle Church, 3000 S. Raccoon Road. Performances are scheduled at 7 p.m. Palm Sunday; 3 and 7 p.m. Good Friday; 7 p.m. March 22; and 7 p.m. March 23. There is no admission fee.

College chorale to sing

YOUNGSTOWN — The chorale of Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary of Ankeny, Iowa, will present a concert of sacred music at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at Boardman Baptist Church, 1207 Shields Road.

Science and God

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — “Radical Amazement,” a program exploring discoveries of modern science and their impact on our perception of God, is planned from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 29 at Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center. Judy Cannato, author and retreat facilitator, will lead the program. She is on the adjunct faculty to the Religious Studies Department at John Carroll University. Registration through Monday is $75. Former Steeler to speak

STRUTHERS — Robin Cole, a linebacker who played in two Super Bowls as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, will speak during worship services at 8:30 a.m. March 23 at Struthers Presbyterian Church, 110 Poland Ave. He is a motivational speaker. A breakfast will follow.

First Friday Club

BOARDMAN — Dr. George Dardess, permanent deacon and former chair of the English department at Allendale Columbia School in Rochester, N.Y., will be guest speaker when the First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown meets April 3 at Antone’s Banquet Centre, Market Street. His topic will be “What Catholics Ought to Know about Muslims.” The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $15. Healing power of sound

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will continue its yearlong Global Meditation Series with the second part of “Resonation: The Healing Power of Sound” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 5. The Rev. Gail Ransom, who has a master of arts in religions degree from Yale Institute of Sacred Music, will lead. Program participants will experience the healing properties of sound vibration and learn how to use sound properties to balance energies, manage stress and quicken the body’s ability to heal. The cost is $40 and includes lunch. Registration by Thursday is $35. Registration is required by March 25. Good Friday program

CAMPBELL — Faith Temple Baptist Church, 125 Roosevelt Drive, will present a Good Friday program, “Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross,” at 7 p.m. Narrator will be Sahara Jenkins, and speakers will be Ministers Shawn Little, Jimmie Wilder, Lawrence Thomas, Leonard Williams Sr. and Carolyn O’Neal and evangelist Arlene Williams. Host pastor is the Rev. Walter Gillespie Jr.

Palm Sunday events

WARREN — Howland Community Church, 198 Niles-Cortland Road S.E., will celebrate Palm Sunday with children processing with palms during the worship service at 10 a.m. An Easter extravaganza follows with refreshments, games and crafts.

‘Journey to the Cross’

LIBERTY — Pleasant Valley Evangelical Church, 2055 Pleasant Valley Road, will present “Journey To the Cross” from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. The event is free and open to the community and is designed to help participants reflect on Christ’s passion. Participants will walk through stations representing different parts of the Easter story.
