Poland's Umbel makes all-tournament team
COLUMBUS — Poland senior guard Ben Umbel was one of five players named to the Division II all-tournament team after scoring 28 points in a semifinal loss to Chillicothe.
Ray Chambers, who hit the last-second shot for the title, and Chillicothe teammate Anthony Hitchens, who passed it to him, shared the most outstanding player award in the division.
Chambers hit a layup at the buzzer off an assist from Hitchens to give Chillicothe a 70-69 overtime victory over Toledo Libbey.
Chambers had 23 points and eight rebounds and Hitchens had 24 points and eight assists in the final. They ended up with 54 points and 48 points, respectively, in the state tournament.
They were joined on the team by Mr. Basketball William Buford, who had 60 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists in two games for Libbey and teammate Julius Wells, who hit two clutch free throws with 5.1 seconds left in overtime to set the stage for Chambers’ late basket.
