North Side woman sentenced to prison for assault
YOUNGSTOWN — An Ohio Avenue woman has been sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to felonious assault on another woman, whom she struck on the head with a brick last Oct. 17.
Dericia R. Lateef, 22, drew the minimum sentence today from Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court for the assault on Lenore McDonald outside McDonald’s residence on Applecrest Court in Boardman.
J. Michael Thompson, assistant county prosecutor, who recommended the two-year sentence, said the assault stemmed from a dispute concerning a man with whom both women had been romantically involved.
Lateef previously was a law-abiding citizen, and she showed remorse in court, Thompson said. Thompson said McDonald suffered cuts and bruises on her head from the attack.
