Rock photo exhibit to open at Oakland

YOUNGSTOWN — An exhibit of photographs by Katie Libecco will open Friday at the Oakland Center for the Arts’ Star Gallery and run concurrently with the Oakland’s production of “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead.”

Titled “Their Song, Their Scene,” the exhibition showcases musicians, venues and familiar faces from the Mahoning Valley rock music scene. It includes more than 30 poster-size and 8-by-10-inch photographs.

“I want people to understand how beautiful the culture and music scene is here,” said Libecco.

The photographs were shot with a digital camera over the past year.

Libecco is a graduating senior at Youngstown State University, with a double major in journalism and telecommunications and a minor in photography. She is also a writer, photographer and videographer for Vindy.com and local entertainment Web site Valley24.com . Libecco graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 2004.

“Their Song, Their Scene” will be available for viewing before productions of “Dog Sees God” this weekend and next Thursday-March 22, and 28-29. The play starts at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sunday.

An artist’s reception will be at 6 p.m. March 21.
