US Airways, union agree; members must ratify pact
TEMPE, Ariz. — Negotiators for the mechanics union at US Airways has agreed with the airline on a contract that includes pensions and 10 percent raises in the first year. The contract still must be ratified by the airline’s 3,300 International Association of Machinists members.
Union spokesman Joseph Tiberi says the agreement would put mechanics from America West Airlines and the former US Airways on the same contract. Tiberi says it would give mechanics 10-percent raises immediately, followed by 3-percent raises every year until 2011, plus new overtime rates. Members can also enroll in a pension plan.
