Maple Leafs 3, Flyers 2

PHILADELPHIA — Pavel Kubina scored his second straight winning goal to lift Toronto to its second win against Philadelphia in two nights. Kubina scored in overtime on Tuesday when the Leafs rallied from a three-goal deficit to beat the Flyers 4-3. This time, Kubina got Philly early in the third period. Playing without injured captain Mats Sundin for the last two periods, the Maple Leafs moved within five points of the Flyers for eighth place in the Eastern Conference. Ian White and Alexei Ponikarovsky also scored for Toronto, on a 9-3-1 run. Jeff Carter and Mike Knuble had goals for the Flyers. Martin Biron, who made 51 saves on Tuesday, had 28 in the rematch.

Capitals 3, Flames 2

WASHINGTON — Alex Ovechkin scored his NHL-leading 55th and 56th goals, including the tiebreaker with 1:54 left, and Olie Kolzig earned his 300th win in Washington’s victory over Calgary. Ovechkin broke a 2-2 tie in the closing minutes with a power-play goal. Kolzig is the 23rd goalie to win 300 NHL games. He has earned every win with the Capitals. Mike Green assisted on both of Ovechkin’s goals. Jarome Iginla and Kristian Huselius took advantage of a pair of 5-on-3 power plays and scored for Calgary.

Panthers 4, Islanders 2

SUNRISE, Fla. — Florida defenseman Karlis Skrastins broke a tie with 8:42 left to lead streaking Florida over the slumping New York Islanders. The Panthers won their season-high fifth straight game. Florida won all four meetings between the teams, completing its first season sweep of the Islanders since the Panthers’ inaugural season in 1993-94. Kamil Kreps and Stephen Weiss also scored for the Panthers, who moved within five points of eighth-place Philadelphia in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Brett McLean added an empty-net goal. Bill Guerin and Blake Comeau scored for the Islanders, who have lost six of seven to drop to 13th in the East.
