Sparkle aids food bank

YOUNGSTOWN — Sparkle Markets are participating in the 17th annual Harvest for Hunger Campaign to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank. Through March 31, Sparkle customers can help “Check Out Hunger” by tearing off a $1, $5 or $10 coupon at the register. Sparkle Markets will also be accepting nonperishable food items during the month.

For every $1 given, the food bank can distribute $15 worth of food. “We’re glad to be able to help feed hungry families through this effort,” said Sandy Zander, president of Sparkle Markets. “When you’re in one of our stores, you can drop off nonperishable food items or tear off a coupon when you check out. Either way, you’re helping feed hungry people in our Valley.”

Changes for sign laws

MINERAL RIDGE — Changes to zoning laws on signs in Weathersfield Township will go into effect in 30 days. The township trustees approved the changes at a public hearing Tuesday.

Three members of the Mineral Ridge Beautification Committee attended the hearing in support of the sign law changes. Trustees made changes to the wording of the sign laws to make their language more understandable if anyone should come to the township Board of Zoning Appeals to ask for a variance. The language changes were intended to make it easier for enforcement of sign laws. The township’s zoning appeals board and the Trumbull County Planning Commission already approved the zoning law changes, which were proposed by the zoning appeals board. Among the new laws is accessory temporary signs are to be no larger than 32 square feet, must not be illuminated and not placed in the right of way and in no way obstruct traffic visibility.
