Weathersfield renews computer contract
Trustees added seven probationary firefighters to the fire department.
MINERAL RIDGE — Weathersfield Township trustees renewed an ongoing yearly contract with DRS of Youngstown for computer work but switched from a top-of-the-line premium package to a basic package.
The service provided by DRS is to remotely network and monitor the township’s computer system to back up all the township’s computerized information so the data is saved off-site.
The contract saves the computer data for the township in case there is a fire or other event that destroys the township system at the administration building or its information.
The township has had the service through DRS for several years and had been paying a $1,500 fee annually up front to pay for a block of hours.
The new format will be that the township will pay only for the hours it uses, trustee Chairman Fred Bobovnyk said at Tuesday’s meeting.
The township will pay for the basic version of service with the company with a 5 percent discount on all costs. The annual cost will be $75 a month with a $300 setup fee.
The contract must be kept for a minimum of a year in the new price category.
The service provides 24-hour, seven-day-a-week remote network monitoring, device performance reporting, and client notification to monitored outages.
The level of service required if a problem occurs is billed based on the expertise of the level of the engineer needed to solve the problem, and higher rates apply for weekends and holidays.
Trustees also named seven probationary firefighters to the township fire department.
They are Thomas Cantola, Justin Kooper and Robert Cranmer, Station 40; William Wills, James K. MacSkimming and Sean Crean, Station 41; and Travis Spithaler, Station 42.
