Figure skating seminar at the Ice Zone

BOARDMAN — The Mahoning Valley Phantoms Figure Skating Club will host the Grassroots to Champions Seminar March 30 at the Ice Zone.

The goal of the program is to help teach figure skaters and their coaches how to properly develop, from the very basics of the sport, all the way into a champion.

The seminar will include multiple on-ice sessions, with both group and private lessons, focusing on training skaters in a variety of jumps and spins, and will feature Dartfish technology, Champion Cords, and muscle memory drills.

Additionally, the one-day camp will include off-ice training in strength and conditioning, air positions, body alignment, and competition preparation. Parents are encouraged to participate in the “Parents Chat,” and coaches are allowed to attend all sessions.

The seminar coaches include two-time U.S. Olympic Team coach Audrey Weisiger, and master figure skating coaches Sheila Thelen and Nick Perna.

Cost of the seminar is $160 for skaters and $60 for coaches. Coaches with four or more registered students at the program will be admitted free of charge. Lunch will be provided for an addition al $10 per person. Registration is due by March 21.
