Courtney Vending robber gets 10 years

YOUNGSTOWN — One of two men charged with robbing Courtney Vending on East Indianola Avenue last Sept. 14 has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Judge Timothy E. Franken of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court imposed the sentence Tuesday on Delano Savage, 26, of East Auburndale Avenue.

During jury selection for his trial, Savage pleaded guilty Monday to three counts of aggravated robbery and four counts of kidnapping with gun specifications.

In a Feb. 13 plea agreement, Nathaniel Austin Jr., 19, of Cedar Lane, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated robbery in the same incident. He’ll be sentenced at 1 p.m. Friday.

Police, who rushed to the robbery scene at 8:40 a.m., were directed by witnesses to the 300 block of Marmion Avenue, where they spotted Savage and Austin sitting in a car. Both men jumped out and ran.

Police caught Austin in a nearby yard with two rolls of coins in his pocket and a black mask pulled down around his neck. Savage was arrested later that day.
