New Middletown council passes budget appropriation

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Village council has approved a $1.1 million 2008 appropriation that includes a $325,500 general fund.

The budget provides $284,000 for police, $118,000 for the fire department and $169,000 for the street department.

In other business, Solicitor Jeffrey Heintz also told council that the village must now adopt flood plain regulations governing construction in flood zones even though only a small portion of village land, located at state Route 170 and Calla Road, is in a flood plain. The regulations are part of an effort which will allow residents to purchase federal flood insurance.

Council also agreed to spend up to $1,200 for a new catch basin on Calla Road to eliminate back-up.
