Driver injured when firetruck hits SUV

BOARDMAN — A township man was treated in the emergency room of St. Elizabeth Health Center after his vehicle was struck by a township firetruck.

The truck, driven by Anthony Steiner, a firefighter, was in the eastbound left lane on U.S. Route 224 about 9:50 a.m. Monday, trying to turn right onto Tiffany South.

A sport-utility vehicle driven by Darrel Edmonds, 30, was headed east on U.S. Route 224 in the right lane, attempting to pass the firetruck, and was struck. The SUV then struck three other vehicles on Route 224 that were stopped at the light at Tiffany, facing west. Edmonds’ vehicle then rolled onto its top.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Canfield, is investigating.

Firefighters had responded to an alarm at a hotel that turned out to be false. They were on their way to another call when the accident happened.
