4 schools pulling out of Steel Valley

WARREN — Although it appears that the Steel Valley Conference will dissolve after the 2008-09 school year, Commissioner Mike Butch and others from the six-school league are hopeful that the circuit will continue to exist in some way.

“If we can get Boardman and Åustintown Fitch to come back to the conference from the [Federal League], then we might decide to stay in existence,” said Butch, who made the official announcement of the planned dissolution of the SVC Tuesday at the 58th annual League of Champions Steel Valley Conference Banquet at Enzo’s Restaurant. “But I don’t see that happening.”

Butch confirmed that Warren JFK, Warren Harding, Chaney and East have decided to leave the SVC, leaving only Ursuline and Cardinal Mooney in the league, and that two teams cannot make a league.
