Coaches: Tisha Hill (Indiana) is 44-97 in her fifth season with the Penguins. Lee Piepho has been the interim head coach of the Titans since December when Mickey Barrett resigned.

Detroit starters: Heather Hatter, 6-0 sophomore (5.1 ppg. 3.4); Sandi Brown, 5-11 junior (11.0 ppg. 5.8); Zemora Davis, 5-9 junior (7.7 ppg. 2.7); Gabi Hungerford, 5-9 freshman (5.0 ppg. 3.0); Chanica Hall, 5-7 sophomore (8.2 ppg. 3.2).

Game notes: Saturday night the Penguiins snapped a four-game losing streak in their regular season final beating Illinois-Chicago 71-62 in Chicago. Senior Heather Karner led the way with 23 points, while junior Tiara Scott added 15 and Ashley Pendleton had 14 points off the bench. This will be the first-ever home tournament contest for the Penguins since they’ve been in the Horizon League. They are also looking for their first post-season victory in the league as they have lost six straight opening round games. The Penguins are the No. 7 seed in the tournament and hosting No. 10 seed Detroit. The Titans have recorded three of their six season wins in their last seven games. They own wins over Cleveland State, UIC and Loyola. They lost their last contest a 71-51 decision to regular season champion Green Bay on Saturday. The Titans are 10-11 in post season play in the conference.

Series: The Penguins swept the Titans in regular season play this year and hold a 11-10 edge in the overall series. YSU beat the Titans 74-55 in Youngstown and 62-59 in Detroit. Detroit’s last win in Youngstown came in 2006 when they beat the Penguins 62-59.

Next up: If the Penguins win tonight they will advance to the tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday where they will play No. 2 seed Wright State in Dayton in a 7 p.m. tip off.
