Worth a Look: Upcoming area activities open to the public
FUNDRAISERS
• Shrine of Our Lady Comforterof the Afflicted, 517 S. Belle Vista Ave., will hold an Easter basket raffle after the noon Mass on Sunday. Tickets for the Easter baskets and for a 50-50 raffle will be sold for $1 each or six for $5. Winners need not be present.
SALES
• Austintown Community Church Preschool Childcare Center will hold a trash and treasure sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the upstairs auditorium at Austintown Community Church, 242 S. Canfield-Niles Road, Austintown. There will also be a basket raffle at the end of the sale. Snacks and beverages will be available. • Central Christian Church, 2051 E. Market St., Warren, will have its annual indoor Spring Flea Market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be 18 booths, featuring antiques, Avon, CDs and DVDs, collectibles, computer monitors and other computer items, household items, jewelry, kitchen knives, Longaberger baskets, craft and sewing items, toys and more. The minister will be selling one-of-a-kind beaded bracelets, which she makes, and proceeds from them will go to church camp scholarships. A bake sale will feature homemade items. • Salvation Army Thrift Store in Austin Center, Mahoning Avenue, Austintown, is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. A variety of men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and bric-a-brac is available at bargain prices.
SHOWS
• The 11th Annual Heart of Avon Antique Show will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Avon Heritage School, 35575 Detroit Road (east of Route 83, across from Avon Commons). Admission is $4; early bird admission, from 9 to 10 a.m., is $6. The show features more than 50 dealers, free parking, door prizes and refreshments.
SPECIAL EVENTS
• Hannah E. Mullins School of Practical Nursing Alumni Association will hold a Spring Fling dance from 8 p.m. to midnight April 19 at VFW Post 5532 in Wasingtonville. Music will be by disc jockey Bob Barko Jr. of Y-Town Tunes. Snacks will be provided, and there will be a cash bar. Tickets are $10, and the public is welcome. • St. Charles Home and School is sponsoring a reverse raffle and dinner dance, “Night at the Museum,” from 6-11 p.m. April 5 at Antone’s Banquet Center, 8578 Market St., Boardman. Dinner will be buffet-style, and there will be an open bar from 6-10:30 p.m. A raffle ticket with one dinner costs $60. This year’s reverse raffle is dedicated to the arts. Local artists have donated original pieces of art to be raffled off. Also included will be artwork created by some St. Charles students.
