SteelHounds post 6-0 win over Thunder
WICHITA, Kan. — Kevin Beech recorded his second shutout as a member of the SteelHounds, and fourth of the season, as Youngstown defeated the Wichita Thunder, 6-0, Sunday night in a Central Hockey League game.
The SteelHounds (34-19-5) finished their regular season road record at 19-11-2, and will finish the season with six home games over the next two weekends.
The SteelHounds are tied with the Rocky Mountain Rage for the third seed in the Northern Conference.
Youngstown scored four goals in the first period. Eric Przepiorka scored his first of two goals in the game (his 24th of the season) just 2 minutes, 58 seconds into the game to give the SteelHounds the early lead.
Chris Richards scored a short-handed goal with 10:43 remaining in the period to make it 2-0. Richards has a team-best 71 points and extended his points streak to six games.
Peter Pohl scored his 22nd goal of the season with 9:32 remaining to make it 3-0, and Bryan Lachapelle made it 4-0 with a goal at the 12:58 mark.
Pohl and Przepiorka scored again in the second period to finish the scoring. Those two also had one assist apiece, and Lachapelle had two assists. In all, Youngstown had nine players score at least one point and five had two or more.
Brad Patterson picked up his first point on an assist since returning to the team Friday, and rookie Tyler Wooddisse extended his assist streak to three games.
Youngstown outshot Wichita, 37-21.
The SteelHounds play host to the Laredo Bucks for three games this weekend, starting Friday at 7:05 p.m. They also play Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and March 16 at 4:05 p.m.
