Phantoms drop 4-3 contest to Rangers


MARQUETTE, Mich. — Josh Bussell scored the game-winning goal with 1:33 remaining, giving the Marquette Rangers a 4-3 win over the Mahoning Valley Phantoms Saturday night.

The goal was Bussell’s second of the game.

Kyle Bailey scored two goals for the Phantoms (30-17-4) and Derek Graham had one. Johnny Meo added two assists, while Miles Winter, Kyle Verbeek, Eric Ringel and Denny Kramarz all had one.

Chad Petila and Derek Grogan added a goal and an assist each for the Rangers (25-24-3). Austin Mattson, Mike Macari, Michael Thompson, Bryan Murphy and Nic Weight also had assists.

Jordan Tibbett made 27 saves for the Phantoms, while Beau Christian had 31 for Marquette.

The Phantoms play host to the Traverse City North Stars for three games at the Ice Zone starting Friday.
