Van-Dells will perform at Ford Family Recital Hall
THE VINDICATOR
YOUNGSTOWN — The Van-Dells, who have been paying tribute to the early days of rock ’n’ roll for more than 30 years, return to Youngstown for a May 22 performance at the Ford Family Recital Hall, 260 W. Federal St.
The Van-Dells last appearance in the Mahoning Valley — at the ITAM club in 2005 — was a sell-out. The three-man group blends comedy, harmony and choreography in its all-ages show, which brings back the sounds and styles of the ’50s and early ’60s.
There are three main characters in the show. Duke is the sternguy who tries to keep the show on course. Mark is the nerd who likes to use Duke as the brunt of his jokes. And Glenn is the bass singer who gets caught in the middle.
Their show has been likened to watching The Three Stooges set to music.
The Van-Dells have shared a stage with many music legends, including Chuck Berry, Chubby Checker, Jerry Lee Lewis, By Diddley, Jan and Dean, The Drifters, The Ink Spots, Pat Boone and Conway Twitty.
Master of Ceremonies for the show will be Carol King of Oldies 106.1 WBBG-106 FM and WNIO 1390-AM.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show are $30 ($25 for seniors and group discounts), and can be bought by sending a check to Ciao Promotions, 35 McKinley Way West, Poland, Ohio, 44514 (make check payable to Ciao Promotions); or calling (330) 757-2779. For more information, go to ciaopromotions.com.
