Perfect games highlight area lanes
Ron Jones rolled 300-279-278 — 857 in Variety Mixed at Holiday Bowl March 7 while Bob Eisenbraun Jr. also had 300 and a second-best 729 series.
Russ Anania had 300 in Friday Seniors at Holiday Feb. 22, as did Dick Marlowe in Boardman Businessmen at Boardman Lanes and Rick Hartzell in Ron Haus Mix Matchers at Amron.
After opening with 208, Jim Tancabel had 300 and 278 for 786 led Wed. Men at Holiday March 5.
Marsha Beasley’s 269-673 was tops in Thursday Gadabouts at Bell-Wick, where the women have six more weeks remaining.
Powered by a 278 single, Karen Kailer had her first 600 of 627 in Wednesday Night Bowlerettes at West Side. She was 75 pins over her 160 game average and 140 pins over her series average. Kailer also will receive a 250 game patch.
Nate Demetra had descending scores of 202, 201 and 200 for 603 in Boardman Juniors.
At Holiday, Bill Crawford Jr., Jeanette Crawford, Laurie Gartland and Tom “Weasel” Blaski comprise Mixed Bankers League third-quarter champion, “The Fore Players.”
The Erv Dodge Memorial Sweeper is March 29 at noon at Boardman Lanes.
The format calls for five games across 10 lanes, open to men and women. There will be both scratch and handicap divisions.
Handicap will be based on 100 percent of 220. The 10-pin rule will be in effect.
Cost is $40 per division.
Proceeds will benefit the Erv “Magic” Dodge Memorial Scholarship at YSU, which was established in 1999.
The 16th senior tournament of the Youngstown-Salem U.S. Bowling Congress’ Women’s Association will be March 15-16 at Holiday Bowl.
Five age divisions include 55 to 59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-76 and 77-and-over.
Each division’s winner will receive first-place prize money and a paid entry into the 2009 Senior tournament.
Sciarra Siding and Winner Transportation Systems are co-sponsors.
The second annual Junior City Scholarship Bowling Tournament entry forms are available in area bowling centers.
Entries close March 17 for the event which is open to all Youngstown USBC Youth 2007-08 sanctioned bowlers. The cost is $10 per event. First-place winners in each division will receive a $50 scholarship. Kay Lanes will conduct the singles and doubles with Bowladrome Lanes site of the team event. Also, Youngstown USBC sanctioned youth seniors have been mailed their scholarship applications. If not, contact Sciarra. All completed forms are due to Kay Marrotti by May 5. The Youngstown USBC Youth Association will award four scholarships at its May banquet. Those include two scholarships for $1,500 (one girl and one boy) and two for $250.
At the state high school tournament in Lancaster on March 1, Boardman sophomore Ciarra Moran placed sixth among individuals with a three-game set of 632.
McDonald’s Rachael Lepor and Hubbard’s Amanda Cornell were tied for eighth with 625, followed by McDonald’s Kayla Barker (14th-592).
Struthers’ Melissa Eggleston had the 15th-best series of 589, while teammate Megan Graham was 24th with 578.
Fitch’s Vickie Lucente was 26th (566), McDonald’s Melissa Wasser was tied for 27th with 562, Fitch’s Gina Cheff was 36th with 541 and Hubbard’s Nicole Zipay and Struthers’ Dani Dyce were tied for 40th with 536.
Jennifer Grady of Kettering Fairmont was top individual with 730.
