NHL Roundup: Saturday’s other games

Canadiens 5, Kings 2

LOS ANGELES — Patrice Brisebois triggered a three-goal second period for Montreal, and Jaroslav Halak made 35 saves in his first start of the season to lift the Canadiens over Los Angeles. Andrei Kostitsyn and Guillaume Latendresse also scored and captain Saku Koivu connected on a power play for the Canadiens, 9-3 since a season-worst three-game losing streak. Tom Kostopoulos scored into an empty net with 1:53 to play.

Anze Kopitar and Rob Blake scored for the Kings.

Avalanche 3, Stars 1

DENVER — Peter Forsberg posted his first two points since rejoining the Avalanche, Andrew Brunette had a goal and an assist, and Colorado won its sixth straight by beating the stumbling Dallas Stars. Jose Theodore stopped 25 shots for his sixth consecutive win, his longest run since late in the 2002 season when he won the Hart Trophy. The Stars have dropped three in a row after winning four straight. The teams will play again tonight in Dallas. Paul Stastny sealed the win with an empty-net goal with 3 seconds remaining. Brunette scored his 15th of the season midway through the third period when he tipped in a pass from Forsberg for a power-play goal, giving the Avalanche a 2-1 lead. The Avalanche are 6-0 since signing Forsberg and acquiring defensemen Adam Foote and Ruslan Salei just before the trade deadline.
