HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY

Ruth Kyle

Born: Feb. 7, 1908, in McKees Rocks, Pa.

Parents: Rosa McGowen and Charles C. Kyle.

Residence: Moved to Youngstown area in 1911. She moved from her Willis Avenue home to Park Vista Retirement Community in 1983.

Schooling: Graduated from South High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1932 at Wooster College. In 1942 she graduated from the University of Michigan with a master’s degree.

Memberships: Is a charter member of Mu Gamma Epsilon Sorority and a member of the Delta Kappa Gammma Teachers Honorary International Society. She has been a member of Miriam Chapter 278, Order of Eastern Star, since 1927. She served as president of the Park Vista Resident Association from 1986 to 1988 and was a leader of the religious life and ecumenical committee.

Employment: Taught school at Campbell, Fairview, McCartney, Gordon and Reed schools; retired from teaching in 1966 and became a member of the national, state and local chapters of the Retired Teachers Association.

Church Affiliations: Is an 86-year member of the John Knox United Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and member of the Lydia Circle and the Dorcas Sunday School Class.

Honors: She volunteered as a medical escort for more than 10 years and frequently presented a unique program about shoes for Park Vista residents and area seniors. In August 1999, she received a certificate from Park Vista in appreciation for her services.

Celebration: A party was held Feb. 7 at Park Vista with friends and caregivers in attendance.
