From sap to syrup
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Discover how sap taken from the tree becomes syrup on the breakfast table at the Jennings Environmental Education Center at 2 p.m. March 16. The program will begin with an indoor presentation that will progress into a guided outdoor walk featuring a working evaporator and a taste of spring itself, real maple syrup.
Donations for program
YOUNGSTOWN — Richard Brown United Methodist Church needs monetary donations to help fund its food shelf program. The church partners with the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation, which matches donations that the church receives. Feinstein, a philanthropist from Cranston R.I., has given away $1 million annually to anti-hunger agencies. Donations may be sent to Richard Brown United Methodist Church, 1205 Elm St., Youngstown 44505. The church serves the Northside Neighbors with a food ministry.
Cleaning up cemeteries
The annual cleanup at St. John Cemetery in Coitsville will take place March 17. All Christmas decorations will be removed at this time. Anyone wishing to recover their decorations must do so before this date. In Boardman, the staff at Lake Park Cemetery, 1459 E. Midlothian Blvd. will begin removing Christmas and artificial decorations March 15 as part of the cemetery’s cleanup. If you wish to keep the decorations, remove them before March 15. All flowers and decorations at Glenview Cemetery, East Palestine, must also be removed by March 15 or they will be discarded. Spring and summer decorations may be put on the graves as of April 1. Spring cleanup day
SHARON, Pa. — There will be a spring cleanup day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 5 at Buhl Farm Park, 730 Forker Blvd. Volunteers should bring gloves, rakes and garbage bags. For more information, call (724) 981-5522.
